About Twitter
Twitter is a free microblogging platform and social network that allows users to share up to 140 text messages or "tweets" with others. Registered users can post tweets and follow other users. Unregistered users can read public tweets on Twitter without an account.
Twitter has nearly 300 million monthly active users. More than 500 million tweets are sent daily in 33 languages.
One of the best advantages of Twitter is the ability to connect and share with other users on the Twitter network. Individuals and businesses can share links, photos and videos with their followers and communicate with them.
Twitter is available at www.twitter.com via a web browser or on a variety of mobile devices, including Apple iOS devices, Android devices, and BlackBerries. HotSuite is a third party Twitter app available for PC and Mac platforms.

Follow:
Following someone on Twitter means subscribing to their tweets or updates on the site. A "follower" is another Twitter user who has followed you. "Following" refers to the other Twitter users you choose to follow on the site.
@:
The @ symbol is used to identify the username in a tweet. When a username is preceded by a @ symbol, it links to that Twitter user profile.
Reply or Reply:
A tweet was posted in response to another user's tweet. Replies are usually posted by clicking the "Reply" button or arrow next to "Tweet". The answer always starts with username.
Retweet:
Forwarding another user's tweet is called a "retweet". Basically you are sharing another user's tweet with your followers, but attributing it to the actual user who posted that tweet.
Twitter's retweet feature allows you and other people to quickly share that tweet with all your followers. This feature is sometimes referred to as a "new style" retweet.
Sometimes people type RT at the beginning of a tweet, indicating that they are reposting someone else's content. This is not an official Twitter command or feature, but it shows that they are quoting another user's tweet. This is sometimes referred to as a "traditional" retweet.
Mention or Mention:
Refers to tweets that contain a username. Replies also mention a type.
Hashtags:
The # symbol is used to identify keywords or topics in a tweet. Hashtags contain only letters and numbers (no punctuation). When you tweet a hashtag, other Twitter users can search for the hashtag. Any Twitter user can create a hashtag at any time.
Direct message
Also known as DMs and more recently just "messages", these tweets are private between sender and recipient. Tweets sent via SMS become DMs when the message starts with "d username" to indicate for whom. To send DM to another user, that user must be following you.
Trends
Twitter's algorithms are currently one of the most popular topics on Twitter.
Favorite
Favorite Tweet means to identify one of your favorites by clicking the yellow star next to the message. Favorite tweets will remain on your favorites list until you delete them.
